[EPIDURAL ANESTHESIA DURING NORMAL DELIVERY]

Before EA
a specialist-anesthesiologist will insert a needle and a tiny tube, called a catheter, in the lower part of a back.

We can begin an EA at any time during labor — in the beginning, in the middle, or even toward the end of normal delivery.
The anesthesiologist will numb
the area where the EA is administered.

EA creates a band (line) of numbness from lower abdomen to upper legs.
It allows a lady to be awake and alert throughout labor, as well as to feel pressure.
The amount of medication, that reaches a newborn
during EA, is very small, and there is no evidence that it causes any harm

In addition to anesthesia, a lady can get some positive effects:
– shortening the first stage of labor,
– muscle relaxation,
– improving the emotional condition by reducing pain
.

To find out more about the procedure and contraindications to it, you need to talk to your doctor –
ObGyn specialist and specialist-anesthesiologist.
